Young Love (First Love)

Love (First Love)
Riding bikes down to the Dairy Queen
Where we share a banana split,
Vanilla for her, chocolate for me
Meeting at the strawberry no-man’s land
With shy smiles and embarrassed gazes.
Running through the corn field
Hopping hand-in-hand over
The fallen husks,
Spinning in circles until dizziness
Drops us laughing to the ground.
Sitting side by side at night
Serenaded by the cricket chorus.
Quickly kissing a sunburned cheek
By the light of the fireflies
Then running laughingly away.
